Aaron Jay Mueller, the former coach accused of giving six of his Gatesville Junior High school students steroids, was sentenced on Wednesday, May 16.

Mueller was convicted of manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance in the 440th District Court of Coryell County.

He is sentenced to one year in TDCJ and 3 years probation.

The 26-year-old former Gatesville Junior High coach and teacher’s aide resigned in July 2017. A warrant was issued for delivery of a controlled substance after the investigation was completed on Nov. 16.

GISD officials said they learned about the incident after a community member was concerned and brought the information to the GISD Athletic Director, Kyle Cooper.

The district 13 4-A Executive Committee had voted to suspend six Gatesville High School football players in October, but the superintendent overruled the suspension.
