Texas A&M softball senior Erica Russell was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
Russell has been a part of several community service projects during her time in College Station, participating in the Down Syndrome Games, playing softball and interacting with the kids. The Bryan, Texas, native has also given her time to three Special Olympics. Russell walked with survivors of ovarian cancer, along with those still battling and those who’ve passed away at the Ovarian Cancer Walk.
Russell has also participated in Aggies Can, receiving cans and raising money for the largest student-athlete run food drive in the nation.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
