Man charged with murder extradited back to Texas

A 26-year-old Harker Heights man who was indicted on a murder charge has been extradited from California back to Texas over the weekend.

Police said Joseph Manuel Blas was taken into custody by offers of the U.S. Marshal's Office in Fountain Valley, California on April 20. 

He has since been booked into the Bell County Jail without bond.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Thomas Raymond West from Harker Heights.

Police officers were called out to the 1000 block of Indian Trail around 6:46 p.m. on March 10.  When officers arrived they found a man lying on the ground bleeding from entry and exit gunshot wounds in the abdomen and hip. 

EMS arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, however, the victim died from his injuries. 

An arrest warrant for Blas was obtained by police on March 12. He is currently being held in the Orange County Central Jail awaiting extradition to Texas.
