Walgreens names top ten areas with flu activity - 8 in Texas

If it seems like everyone you know has the flu this year, Walgreens may have given us an answer.

According to The Walgreens flu index, Texas is the number one state with flu activity after Dec. 23. Out of the top ten areas, eight were in Texas. 

The top ten areas include: 

  1. Tyler-Longview (Lufkin & Nacogdoches), Texas
  2. Harlingen-Weslaco-Brownville-McAllen, Texas
  3. Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas
  4. Houston, Texas
  5. Waco-Temple-Bryan, Texas
  6. Corpus Christi, Texas
  7. Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
  8. Little Rock-Pine Bluff, Ark. 
  9. San Antonio, Texas
  10. Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, Ark. 

Walgreens provides the information using retail prescription data for antiviral medications used to treat influenza across locations nationwide.

A week after seeing an almost 208 percent increase in flu reports, McLennan County had more than 1,500 cases of flu reported the week of Dec. 22.
