Fort Hood soldier dies from swimming injuries

A 28-year-old Fort Hood soldier was pronounced dead on Oct. 16 after injuries he suffered while swimming with friends in Mansfield.

Fort Hood officials said Sgt. Sameer Chalise entered active-duty service in Jan. 2015 as a unit supply specialist and was assigned to the Replacement Detachment, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hood, Texas in Oct. 2017. 

Chalise was from Alpharetta, Georgia. His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
