One person has been charged after shooting and killing a man during an ongoing dispute in Grimes County on Aug. 6.

At 6:30 p.m., deputies were called to the 19000 block of State Hwy 30 in the Shiro Community of Grimes County for a report of a man with a gun trespassing in the area.

While they were en route, deputies received information that someone had been shot and was lying in the driveway. When they arrived on scene, they found the individual, 26-year-old Henry Mayen, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Grimes County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect has been identified as Robert Bender, 27, by witnesses who said he was the individual who shot Mayen.

Investigators learned there was an ongoing dispute between Bender and Mayen. Bender confessed to shooting Mayen as a result of the dispute, deputies said.

Bender has been arrested and charged with murder. His bond has not been set.

The incident is still under investigation.
