Founder of Special Olympics to be remembered on July 20

The founder of the Special Olympics movement will be remembered at an annual celebration. 

Eunice Kennedy Shriver will be remembered on July 20. 

People around the world will participate in Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day, the eighth annual celebration in memory of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics movement and a leading international advocate for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities.

Since 2010, Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day has been celebrated around the world, bringing together people with and without intellectual disabilities in various activities to honor the inspiration, impact and indomitable spirit of Shriver.

While 5.7 million Special Olympics athletes and millions of coaches, families, fans and friends live her legacy and lead our movement every day, the world unites on Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day in over 100 countries and thousands of communities to show the world the power of unity to create opportunities of acceptance.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day will be celebrated with a number of activities involving people with and without intellectual disabilities.
