The Justice Themis statue that stood atop the Courthouse in Waco was removed on Saturday.

The 117-year-old zinc statue will be replaced with a new one in the coming months.

Mike Anderson with Montgomery Construction and Roofing said this is the second time they have taken the statue down in the last seven years.

The last time was to repair it.

Anderson said 33-35 people worked to get the more than 5,000-pound statue down. It took them a total of seven hours. He said they had prepped for two months and everything went smoothly.

The statue will head to Alabama, where an exact duplicate will be made and installed sometime in September or October.
