National Amateur Radio Field Day to demonstrate the science, skill and service of amateur radios

COPPERAS COVE, TX (KXXV) -

On June 24, the City of Copperas Cove will hold a 24 hour Amateur Radio Field day demonstration at High Chaparral Park.

The Division of Emergency Management, in cooperation with members of the Cove Repeater Association and the Texas Department of State Health Services, will be participating in a national Field Day exercise taking place from 1 p.m. June 24 continuously until 1 p.m. June 25.

This event is open to the public.

Field day activities will include the demonstration of the amateur, or ham, radio, and its ability to communicate reliably under any conditions without cell or internet connection. Emergency management staff be on site to discuss community disaster preparedness.

Last year, over 35,000 people participated in Field Day.

The event will be held at the City of Copperas Cove High Chaparral Park located at 1310 High Chaparral Dr.
