Copperas Cove and Kempner firefighters are getting the chance to practice on live fires thanks to a partnership with Fort Hood.
Everyone from rookies all the way up to fire chief are participating in trainings at Fort Hood's burn building.
The burn building allows them to practice navigating through unfamiliar settings that are consumed with fire and smoke.
Rescue missions are also simulated using dummy victims. Firefighters are even being trained to save one of their own if he or she were to become a victim while fighting a fire.
These types of trainings happen annually and help keep firefighters accustomed to heat and smoke.
Copperas Cove firefighters will be out on post again Thursday for their final day of training.
