Teachers at one Waco school will soon have drones to use in their lessons.

ATLAS Academy at Tennyson Middle School recently received a grant from Region 12 for nearly $4,900 that will go towards purchasing drones.

The academy will add a 6-week drone mini-course that will teach students how to build a drone and allow them to explore what they can do with one.

Administrators said they want to incorporate the drone technology to promote STEM education.

"Ten years from now, where is this industry going to be? They're the ones that are going to find that out. I mean, inspiring them to do so, that's our job," Matt Rambo, Assistant Principal at Atlas Academy, said.

Students, like 7th grade Noah Garner, said they can't wait for the class to start.

"This is exciting. It's just drones. They're just generally cool," Garner said.

The school should be getting the drones this summer and the course will start next year.

Students will be building the drones and learning what they can use the drones for.
