WACO, TX (KXXV) -

A Waco man is in custody for attempted murder after brutally beating someone outside AJ’s Food Mart last night.

Last night just after 5 p.m., officers responded to reports of a suspect killing a man in the 500 block of Faulkner Lane.

When police arrived on scene, they found 69-year-old Bobby Ray Stephens severely beaten and lying in the parking lot.

After talking to witnesses and checking surveillance video, authorities discovered 63-year-old Kenneth Anderson had stomped on the victim’s head, neck and throat.

Stephens suffered a spinal fracture, brain bleeds and other injuries from the vicious assault.

He was taken to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest where he remains in critical condition.

Police were able to locate Anderson in the 400 block of Carver, take him into custody, and charge him with attempted murder.
