The Coryell County 52nd Judicial District Attorney said that 39-year-old Shomari Shaw pled guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Monday.

The Coryell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call in the rural area of Copperas Cove on July 24, 2015.

According to authorities, the victim had injuries to her face and stab wounds to her lower abdomen area. She told authorities she knew the assailant. She identified Shaw as the man who took her bank card and her vehicle after assaulting her.

When responders arrived on scene, the suspect had fled.

After further investigation by the Texas Rangers, Shaw was stopped near the Oklahoma border by the Gainesville Police Department and taken into custody.

The jury gave Shaw 65 years in prison with a $10,000 fine.
