TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

A former Temple police officer was arrested and accused of revealing details on an ongoing investigation.

The FBI claims that Erick French, 24, made false statements to federal investigators to hide the fact that he told someone about a Temple Police Special Investigations Unit ongoing investigation.

Investigators said French sent two text messages in March 2016 alerting an someone about an investigation. They said French then provided the FBI with false information to cover that up.

French faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

French is out on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment in Austin Sept. 19.
