The man that was involved in a standoff with Copperas Cove police was cleared from the hospital after being shot by police and is now in Coryell County jail.

Copperas Cove Police attempted to serve a felony warrant for Aggravated Assault on the 600 block of N. 17th Street just after 12:40 p.m.

Police say that they were communicating with Alexander Coltart,41, by phone and were unable to get him to come out of his home.

Copperas Cove SWAT arrived to assist police.

After 3:40 p.m., Coltart exited the home with a rifle. He then fled to 600 block of N. 15th St.

Coltart pointed his rifle towards police and that’s when officers shot several times, hitting the suspect.

He was transported to Darnall Army Medical Hospital for unspecified injuries and has since been transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

The incident is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
