The Hewitt Police Department is investigating a string of car burglaries that occurred in the past few days.

According to Chief James Devlin, on early Monday one vehicle parked on Dixon Drive with the keys inside was stolen and five unlocked cars were burglarized.

One locked vehicle was also burglarized at Stoneridge Drive on early Tuesday.

Devlin said car burglaries go up during the summer time and 90 percent of the burglaries have the potential to be avoided.

"We just want to put the reminder out to our citizens to make sure they lock their cars, take their keys. They either take their belongings inside. Don't leave electronics out in plain view because this is what these criminals are after," Devlin said.

At this time, Hewitt Police are talking to other police departments in the area to see if they have had similar car burglaries in their area.

No arrests have been made in this case.
