A Temple water park is aiming to present the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on Friday, June 24.

The Lions Junction Family Water Park is hosting a free swim lesson for parents and children before the water park opens for the day.

Parents and guests are asked to sign in at the water park 30 minutes prior to the start of the lesson. The swim lesson is free and open to the public.

Along with 700 aquatic facilities across the world, the event hopes to build awareness about the importance of teaching children how to swim and preventing drownings.

In a press release, Aquatics Coordinator for the City of Temple Parks & Recreation Department Keith Dawson said, “We want to make sure everybody stays safe around the water all year long, not just during the summer months. If we can raise awareness about the importance of learning to swim early, it could potentially save a life later.”

Drowning remains the leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for U.S. children ages 1-4 and the second cause for children under 14.
