A 31-year-old man has been charged with deadly conduct after police said he admitted to accidentally discharging a shotgun outside his garage in the direction of another residence in March.

The arrest affidavit states Matthew Hardy who appeared intoxicated, told officers he was trying to learn how to load a shotgun when he unintentionally fired the weapon.

The Robinson Police Department went to the 500 block of Simmons Drive on March 17 around 3:50 a.m. in reference to a criminal mischief. Officers said the complainant said someone had shot his Toyota Camry. Later, they noticed windows on the driver’s side shot out and bullet holes along the passenger side of the vehicle. The trajectory was traced back to Hardy’s residence, according to the arrest affidavit.
