FORT HOOD, TX (KXXV) -

A shooting Monday night at the Gatesville VFW sent two people to the hospital.

Ruben Maldonado Jr. was inside drinking when he got upset at someone at the club. Maldonado began to threaten to get his gun from his vehicle.

When Maldonado went outside to his car, two women tried to calm him down. Another patron from the VFW also went outside to prevent anyone from getting hurt.

Maldonado shot at the patron, but missed and hit one of the women. The patron tackled him and restrained him until police arrived.

The woman was taken to Scott and White hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Maldonado was taken to Coryell Memorial Hospital for his injuries from being tackled to the ground.

He is being charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
