The day before the one-year anniversary of the West fertilizer plant explosion, Governor Rick Perry granted the City of West's request for an additional $4.8 million in assistance.

The disaster grant assistance will be used for recovery efforts related to the 2013 fertilizer explosion in West. It will help West repair and rebuild infrastructure that was damaged in the blast, as well as assist other projects in West.

"Last year's tragedy touched the lives of every member of the West community, and touched the hearts of all Texans," Gov. Perry said in a release. "As we focus on the path forward, these recovery funds will help the people of West rebuild their lives and invest in the future of their community."
