FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A soldier repeatedly shot during the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood is detailing his injuries for the jury deciding whether to sentence the gunman to death.

Staff Sgt. Patrick Ziegler testified Monday during the sentencing phase of Maj. Nidal Hasan's trial. Military jurors who convicted Hasan on Friday are now deciding whether to sentence him to death for the attack that killed 13 people at the Texas military base.

Ziegler says he was shot four times and underwent emergency surgery that removed about 20% of his brain. He was hospitalized for about 11 months and had 10 surgeries, and his injuries left him paralyzed on his left side.

Ziegler says he's fought severe depression and can't care for his young son, "like a normal father would."
