Many organizations joined forces to bring the Temple community a free clinic and shoe donation Nov. 10.

From young to old, many gathered at Impact Church to take advantage of the free services. Although the clinic is geared toward the younger generation, adults were also welcome to get a quick check-up.

Stations ranged from wellness, diabetes, dental and eye exams. After they went through those there was a shoe donation area where men, women and children got to pick out a brand new pair of shoes.

This group of organizations aimed to make sure people who don't have insurance or not enough of it get the care they need. Marilyn Sanders came in with her daughter Bethany Duplush for the first time.

Duplush was diagnosed with asthma ever since she was born so days like this are a lifesaver when she can come in and receive free care. During her visit, one doctor noticed wheezing in her lungs as he listened to them with his stethoscope. After realizing her asthma may be worse than presumed, Sanders is grateful for coming in today.

"I'm glad I came today," Sanders says. "I wouldn't of known ya know that she was wheezing and we can prevent before it gets to forward and we wind up in the hospital."

Sanders and her daughter are an example of the goal that the organizations strive toward. Doree Collins, executive director of the nonprofit organization Un-Included Club, says they joined in this project to get more kids to come in today.

"Our main goal is just to get in as many families as we can to make sure their kiddos are taken care of," Collins says.

After the checkup, they got a chance to pick out a pair of shoes, a new backpack and stuffed animal. Sanders appreciates the opportunity, she and her daughter got today.

"I'm very thankful, very thankful people like me that's disabled can't get around so they're really helping," Sanders says.

This isn't the only time a clinic like this will be set up. For future events visit the Un-Included Club's website for more info on how you can join or volunteer for the next one.

The organizations and nonprofits that helped with the event are Texas A&M, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Baylor Scott & White, Dentist Brent Boyd, Un-Included Club, Impact Church, Lions Club, Arches footwear and Naot.
