The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has issued a boil water notice to residents in the Belton area east of I-35, north of Nolan Creek and south of the Leon River.

To ensure safe water for drinking, cooking and ice, those in the affected area are advised to bring water to a vigorous rolling boil and let the water remain boiling for two minutes to destroy harmful microbes and bacteria.

The Belton boil water notice was issued just moments after the city-wide Austin boil water notice. According to KXAN, the Austin Boil water notice is due to “the high level of debris, silt and mud requires extended filtration” after the recent storms in the area.

The city of Belton says the boil water notice is due to a repair of a broken eight-inch water line causing the disruption in water service.

Water system officials will notify the public when the water is safe to consume without boiling. Please contact the City of Belton Public Works Department at (251) 933-5823 with any questions.
