Electric scooters that were parked along Austin Avenue in downtown Waco on Friday have been removed.

Larry Holze, the spokesperson for the City of Waco, said these scooters were operating illegally. They told the company, Bird Scooters, that they had until 5 p.m. on Saturday to pick them all up.

The company did as they were told to avoid being fined.

"We have an ordinance that prevents people from setting up shop of any kind, selling personal property on public right of ways public streets and sidewalks," Holze said. "We do that obviously to protect the integrity of the streets."

Holze said the company has not shown an interest in following through with the necessary paperwork to operate in the city.

Holze said they are also currently looking for vendors interested in legally starting a bike share program in Waco.
