Waco is joining many cities across Texas that are embracing recycling at home and at work for America Recycles Day, a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful.

Waco is doing that by giving you an additional blue curbside recycling cart at no charge.

Typically, a second cart would cost you an extra $4 a month, but the Waco City Council decided to change that during the latest budget approval process.

"It's an effort to continue to increase the amount of product that's recycled, rather than put to our landfill," said Larry Holze, spokesperson for the city. "We feel like it's a great, responsible way to be good citizens and we want to encourage that."

Holze said the city will even drop off the extra recycling cart at your home.

To get a second blue cart or to learn more about recycling, call 254-299-2612 or go to waco-texas.com.  Waco residents can also go to 501 Schroeder and pick a cart up. In addition, anyone can use the Cobbs Drive Convenience Center for recycling most household items.
