With Veterans Day coming up this weekend, some local elementary school students are getting a head start honoring our nation's heroes.

Eighteen second-graders from Woodway Christian School sang their hearts out at Veterans One Stop in Waco on Nov. 8.

They spent the afternoon singing patriotic songs and ate lunch with our local vets. They also delivered cards thanking them for their service.

The veterans were quick to share their stories with the kids and enjoyed seeing some new faces at their hangout spot.

"They were really excited to meet the veterans," said Cindy Keltner, second-grade teacher at Woodway Christian School. "It's so important for us to teach them about different important events that have happened in history and the people who have worked hard to help our country and protect us."

Woodway Christian School's motto for the year is 'do something'. The kids will go out to spread joy and do good deeds throughout the year with different organizations in the community.
