A body has been found at a vacant restaurant in Waco.

The body was found in a vehicle parked at the Jack in the Box on University Parks Drive near Baylor University.

The Waco Police Department arrived on scene around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 7. Officers responded after receiving a call from a yard crew who noticed an odor coming from the car.

Sgt. Patrick Swanton said the deceased appears to be a black man, but they can only confirm that information based on his hair since the body is so badly decomposed.

"The past few days, we were up to into the 80s, 85, 90-degree heat," said Swanton. "Obviously inside of a car it gets much hotter, but even with that he's been here a while."

He said the man has been dead for days at the very least.

Special Crimes Officers with Waco Police also found prescription bottles and other items inside the car. This makes them believe the man was either a diabetic or a drug user.

The car is locally registered. The name on the registration also matches the name on the bottles. Swanton said this will help them determine who the man is rather quickly.

He said the man's family will be notified as soon as possible.

The body has been sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for an autopsy in hopes of figuring out how and when he died.
