Baylor women’s tennis head coach Joey Scrivano announced the addition of Camilla Abbate to his spring roster on Wednesday morning. The Bologna, Italy, native joins the team in January and will be eligible to compete for the regular season.

“We are pleased to welcome Camilla to our program and the Baylor family,” Scrivano said. “She is a phenomenal student-athlete with a great work ethic and positive mindset. She understands what it takes to be successful on and off the court, and will be a welcome addition to our team. Camila was a prospect we highly regarded from day one. All the credit goes to Chris Frusci for building a relationship with Camilla and helping her to become a Baylor Bear. She has a bright future ahead of her and we are excited to a part of it.”

Abbate, a national university champion and three-time regional representative, is rated No. 106 nationally in Italy. She has also reached the quarterfinal round in Cuneo and second round in Trieste tournaments.

Abbate aspires to play professional tennis one day and eventually come a sports manager. She lists her mother, Rizzente Silvia, as the most influential person in her tennis career because she believes in her no matter what.

Baylor, which earned its 13th consecutive NCAA Championship bid and 20th overall last season, brings its spring roster size to eight with the addition of Abbate. The Lady Bears will be comprised of five freshmen, two sophomores and one senior.
