UMHB men's tennis opens play at ITA Southwest Regional

BELTON, TX (KXXV) -

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s tennis team opened play at the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament on a soggy Friday in San Antonio. Play was delayed almost six hours after persistent rain kept courts unplayable into Friday afternoon.

In flight “A” singles, Julian Dunmore opened with a 6-4, 7-6(2) victory over Southwestern University’s Jeremy Wilson. Dunmore then fell to U.T.-Tyler’s Vinicio Hadlich 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. Alex Mackellar opened with a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Trinity’s Lars Wiik. Mackellar topped Texas Lutheran’s Nick Riccaforte 7-5, 6-4 in consolation before falling to Trinity’s Robby Bundy 6-4, 6-3.

In flight “B” singles, Brian Martin topped McMurry’s Chris Causer 8-1 in the opening round. Martin followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over LeTourneau’s Rodrigo Vasquez-Chairez. Jace Mahan topped Texas Lutheran’s Alex Talley 8-2 in the opening round. Mahan then fell to Concordia’s Cameron LaRue 7-5, 7-5. Cole Weiss fell to Concordia’s Adam Compton 8-3. Robert Galligan lost his opener to Trinity’s Ricky Mayer 8-4.

In flight “C” singles, John Swords fell to Southwestern’s Kyle Brown 8-1 in first round action.

In flight “A” doubles, Martin and Galligan fell to Concordia’s Le and LaRue 8-1 in the first round. Dunmore and Mackellar posted an 8-3 first round win over TLU’s Subealda and Dramiga.

In flight “B” doubles, Weiss and Mahan lost to Schreiner’s Isaac Vasquez and Roger Santos 8-4 in the opening round.

The tournament is being played at three different sites in San Antonio and is hosted by Trinity University. The event runs through Sunday and closes out the fall schedule for the UMHB men.
