The City of Cameron continues the search for a police chief after the finalist for the position withdrew Thursday.

The city announced Sept. 13 that Shane Snider was offered the position of chief of police after a special meeting Sept. 12. Snider's first day would have been on Oct. 2. On Thursday, Sept. 28, Snider withdrew from the position.

The city said that unverified information came in that raised concerns over the hiring of Snider and his qualifications. The information was found to be false.

"This is a huge disappointment," said city manager Rhett Parker. "We had a good man who would do right for our citizens."

Snider has worked for the Harris County Constable Office Precinct One in Houston for nine years. Snider has a total of 26 years in law enforcement.
