Two are dead after an apparent murder-suicide at the Speegleville Marina on Lake Waco.

Waco police responded to the scene Friday afternoon.

The bodies of a man and woman were found inside of a houseboat. Police said they believe it was a murder-suicide.

The couple has been identified as 47-year-old William and 48-year-old Twila Mooney of Waco.

The couple’s Facebook pages stated that the couple married on April 22, 2017.

After not being heard from since Wednesday, a friend checked the houseboat and found the bodies.

"I believe that the two came together most likely. Something occurred that one of the individuals shot the other individual," Waco Police Spokesman Sgt. Swanton said.

Swanton added it is unusual to investigate this type of crime at the Speegleville Marina.

"This is a recreational area. Certainly, we have calls for service but a murder-suicide like this is pretty unusual," Swanton said.

Police said they recovered a handgun at the scene and that the investigation is still underway.

"In these kind of circumstances, the two witnesses in this case are both deceased so we may never know what happened. Obviously we will do some diving into the background to see if there is any past history between the two," Swanton said.

The bodies were sent for an autopsy.

The funeral for Twila will be held at Lake Shore Funeral Home chapel on July 28 at 11:30 a.m.
