The wind and cool temperatures Saturday morning didn't stop dozens of people in Temple from securely shredding their documents.

It was part of Great American Cleanup/Earth Day festivities around the country and the world.

The city partnered with Kwik Kopy, R-W Lone Star Security and Holy Trinity Catholic High School to help people get their documents destroyed.

People brought lots of papers in boxes and bags, which were shredded in a truck right on site.

The event not only helped clear people's clutter but it also helped prevent identity theft.

"If you shred [documents], they're micro-shredded, and people can't get all your information off of it. And if you just throw it away, there's a possibility somebody's going to have your name, your address, your social security number, and things like that," the city's recycling coordinator Dawn Orange said.

If you missed Saturday's event, the city will be holding another one in November.
