The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team grabbed a lead in doubles and then swept through the middle of doubles on the way to a 7-2 victory over Hardin-Simmons Friday in Belton. UMHB improves to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in American Southwest Conference West Division play with the victory. The loss drops the Cowboys to 9-11 overall and 4-2 in the ASC West.
Scott Wilding and Brendan Thompson paired for a win at #1 doubles and Daniel Riner and Julian Dunmore teamed for a victory at #2 doubles to give UMHB a 2-1 lead going into singles. The Cru got wins from Thompson at #2, Cole Weiss at #3, Dunmore at #4, Riner at #5 and Alex Mackellar at #6 singles to clinch the victory.
The victory also guarantees the Cru of a #2 seed in the ASC Championship Tournament. UMHB will close out the regular season with an 11:00 AM home match against McMurry University on Saturday.
