A 23-year-old man died after he was accidentally run over by a freight train in Lacy Lakeview Sunday.
Police said Keenan Donald Everett Peters and three of his friends got on a Union Pacific non-passenger train in Austin and decided to ride it to Dallas. Police said when the train slowed down in Lacy Lakeview, the four men decided to get off the train to find something to eat.
Peters was the last one to try to get off the train. Because of the rain overnight, police said he slipped and fell between train cars and the train ran him over. He died at the scene.
Investigators have ruled it as an accident.
Lacy Lakeview Police Chief John Truehitt said the railroad company had encountered Peters riding freight trains like that in the past.
