Mother of child who was killed in I-35 crash dies 16 days later

A woman has died 16 days after a crash on I-35 that killed her 4-year-old daughter. The woman was 29-year-old Cassandra Higginbotham of Carrollton.

Her husband is still in critical condition. The son is in stable condition.

DPS troopers said the girl was buckled into a car seat but the impact of the crash was massive.

An RV towing a car crashed into several vehicles. The Kia SUV the girl was riding in was hit by the RV.

Six cars were involved in the crash.

The accident caused traffic delays on Interstate 35 southbound around 4 p.m. Saturday. 

According to TxDOT, the accident occurred on southbound I-35 near FM 308 and mile marker 343 in Elm Mott. 

Traffic is being diverted onto the access road off of exit 344. 

Wazereports standstill traffic in the area. 

Troopers were still clearing the scene as of 9:40 p.m. Saturday.
