No. 15 Baylor softball (21-4) notched a 5-4 win over No. 18/19 Louisiana-Lafayette (17-5), finishing off an eight-game, seven-day road trip with a win over the Ragin’ Cajuns on Wednesday evening at Lamson Park.
Kelsee Selman (11-2) notched another win for the Lady Bears in the circle, tossing a complete game win allowing just four hits, three earned runs, and three strikeouts.
The Baylor bats wasted no time making a strong first impression, with Jessie Scroggins leading off the game with a solo home run, her first of the season.
Kyla Walker took a full count walk, moving to third on a single by Shelby Friudenberg.
Shelby McGlaun notched her first RBI in the game, grounding out to the shortstop and scoring Walker, giving BU a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Lady Bears kept the pressure on in the top of the fifth, with Walker leading off with a single up the middle.
After stealing second, McGlaun pulled through again, roping a double to the gap in right center to score Walker, pushing BU in front, 3-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, ULL added two runs on a pair of solo home runs, cutting the lead down to one.
Flipping to the top of the seventh, the Lady Bears got the ball rolling again, with Friudenberg threading a single into left field.
McGlaun iced a remarkable game at the plate, crushing a ball over the outfield bleachers in left field, plating two more runs to give BU the 5-2 lead.
After adding what ended up being crucial insurance runs, the Lady Bears held off a late rally on a two-run, inside the park home run by the Ragin’ Cajuns, taking a 5-4 win over ULL.
