UMHB men's soccer edges LeTourneau 2-1

Posted

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s soccer team took a 2-0 lead and held off a furious LeTourneau comeback bid as the Cru posted a 2-1 win Friday night in Belton. UMHB improves to 9-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 5-8-2 overall and 2-5-0 in the ASC on the season.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half before UMHB finally dented the scoreboard. McKenna Cook knocked home an assist from Case Carnes in the 53rd minute to make it 1-0 Cru. Daniel Santa added an unassisted goal 11 minutes later to put UMHB up 2-0. LeTourneau would score on a Cru own goal in the 72nd minute to cut it to 2-1 and the Yellow Jackets had several chances to tie it later, but the UMHB defense turned those chances aside.

Javier Zaragoza had one save for the Cru. Brian Howell recorded nine saves for LeTourneau. UMHB outshot the Yellow Jackets 23-4 and had an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Cru men will host East Texas Baptist for a 7:30 PM start on Saturday. That will be the regular season home finale for the UMHB men.
