There are no likely survivors after a hot air balloon crashed into a field near Lockhart, TX.

Witnesses said the hot air balloon crash ended in a large explosion. The basket of the balloon remained on fire until the fire department arrived.

Officials believe at least sixteen people died in the crash.

Area resident Mary Wiley was at home not far from the crash. She said that it was the worst thing she's ever seen.

"I've never seen anything like that in my 66 years, and I don't care if I see it every again," she said.

Residents in the area are used to seeing hot air balloons. Wiley said they land near her property all the time.

Saturday morning Mary Wiley was in her home when she heard a loud popping sound and ran outside

"By the time I got to that white trailer, that's where I saw it, and that's when the propane tank blew up," she said.

Officials announced from the scene late Saturday morning that they did not believe there were any survivors.

The FAA and the National transportation and Safety Board arrived late Saturday afternoon to begin their investigation at the scene of the crash.

While officials are remaining tight lipped on the cause of the accident, one witness we spoke to said they saw the hot air balloon hit a power line.
