TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

Six people were displaced from their apartment after a fire broke out Saturday night.

Temple firefighters were called to a structure fire at the Canyon Creek Town Homes in the 1400 block of Canyon Creek Drive.

Crews found smoke coming out the front door of the two-story apartment and one person lying outside in the parking lot.

Firefighters found heavy smoke on the first floor when they got inside the building.

The fire was located in an upstairs bedroom where a mattress had caught on fire and the fire spread to other things in the room.

Officials say the fire has been ruled unintentional and was caused by discarded cigarettes.

Two people were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters also found a dog inside the living room and reunited it with the family.
