A missing two-year-old was found inside a vehicle and later died at a hospital, according to Temple police.

Police said the missing child was found inside a vehicle in the 1600 block of East Barton Avenue.

Police said the parents had searched for child before calling police.

When police arrived, they set up a perimeter and immediately starting looking around the house and the neighborhood for the child. Police found the two year old inside a van parked in the driveway.

Officers discovered the two year old girl was inside the vehicle for at least an hour prior to their arrival. Officers found the girl in the car seat, but she wasn't buckled in.

Temple firefighters gave the toddler CPR and then rushed her to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple. She died at the hospital.

Police are not sure if the child was left in the car or if she somehow got in the car on her own.

An autopsy has been ordered.

Temple Police Department’s General Investigation’s Unit is investigating circumstances surrounding the incident.
