After the school district issued a warning of a potential tuberculosis outbreak, concerned Killeen ISD parents are now speaking out.

Many parents and children were terrified and upset after they had been told they could have been exposed to this highly contagious disease known as tuberculosis.

Eastern Hills Middle School is where Millie McKell's daughter attends as a sixth grade student. She said her child was notified of this issue before she was, and she believes K- I-S-D should have used a better form of communication.

"What could have made it better is possibly notifying all the parents that were involved with all these schools not just the selective parents that had the students in a certain class room" said McKell.

T-B is an infectious disease that can be passed through the air. If a child breaths in the T-B germ it may cause infections in the lungs and other various places in the body.

McKell said once K-I-S-D was made aware of the exposure they should have notified parents because the children exposed could have interacted with other children as well.

“Immediately when there was a question and health department got involved that's when we should have been notified”.

McKell said she received a letter that was sent home with her daughter on Friday after school stating the areas of possible exposure had been disinfected but she was informed to get her tested immediately.

The schools with students and staff who have potentially been exposed to T-B are:

  • Eastern Hills Middle School
  • Manor Middle School
  • Patterson Middle School
  • Union Grove Middle School
