Man Shot During Aggravated Robbery in Waco

WACO, TX (KXXV) - Waco police are searching for a suspect who shot a man during a robbery at a local restaurant.

Police report the incident was at the Taqueria located at 2021 Speight Avenue about 11 p.m. Friday night.

According to police, the suspect was heavily intoxicated when he became belligerent and accused a man of stealing his wallet. The man then gave the suspect his own wallet out of fear after the suspect brandished a pistol.

During the robbery, the victim, Juan Gomez, tried to intervene and was shot in the hand during the struggle.

Gomez was rushed to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was able to escape through the back door of the restaurant and is still on the loose.
