On Friday night, a fire displaced a family of six who lived in the 100 block of North Walnut Street in Lacy Lakeview.

According to the residents, everyone was able to make it out safely but some of the pets are still unaccounted for.

Bellmead, Lacy Lakeview and Elm Mott fire crews fought the flames for more than two hours. The fire started after 7 p.m. and the flames were visible for more than an hour. The fire was under control as of 10 p.m.

Firefighters at the scene were busy battling the flames. However, residents told News Channel 25 that neighbors alerted a teen and three children to evacuate the home when they saw smoke coming out of it. One neighbor said he saw smoke coming from the back porch when the fire started.

Their parents said they had just left the home to go grocery shopping.

The kids told their family they heard a popping noise before the house caught fire. It is unknown if the cause was weather-related as the fire remains under investigation.

The family had home insurance and the Red Cross is assisting them right now. Their neighbors and friends also offered support and shelter.
