A Waco police officer and another driver were sent to the hospital after a crash at the intersection of 17th and Washington St. Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the Cadillac was on Washington Ave., when her car crashed into the side of the police vehicle, which was north on 17th St. just before 1:45 p.m.

Police say their investigation shows the police vehicle was reportedly en route to help with a theft call out of Woodway and had its lights on. The officer was using an air horn, when the officer slowed at the intersection, but tried to continue into the intersection as the traffic light was red.

The investigation determined the driver of the Cadillac entered the intersection as her light had just turned green. She was unable to see the police car because of the "limited visibility" of the intersection and hit the patrol car.

The drivers of both vehicles sustained only minor injuries. They were both taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Sgt. Scott Holt was treated and released later that afternoon. The condition of the other driver involved has not been released.

Woodway Police arrested three suspects, David Medrano, Ersdras Rodriguez and Patrick Sotomayor at a home in the 2800 block of 28th St. in connection with the reported theft.
