Burleson Co. Sheriff's Office investigating after man drowns in Lake Somerville

BURLESON COUNTY, TX — A 20-year-old man is dead after a drowning at Lake Somerville near Welch Park last night.

The victim has been identified as Kendree Dashawn Citizen of Sealy, Tx.

On Saturday, May 23, 2020 at approximately 6:34 PM the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man who went missing after entering the waters of Lake Somerville near Welch Park.

Citizen, who was on a boat with friends, jumped into the water approximately 50 yards from shore with other individuals with the intention of swimming to shore.

Citizen was seen going under water and did not re-surface, according to deputies.

The other individuals were able to reach the shore but were unable to locate the man after they began searching.

On May 23, 2020 at approximately 10:50 PM a State Game Warden’s boat was able to locate and recover Citizen's body.

The body will be sent to the Travis County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy.

The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation.

Texas Parks & Wildlife, Somerville Fire Department, St. Joseph’s medics and the Somerville Police Department responded to and assisted in this investigation.
