FRANKLIN, TX — Robertson County’s Sheriff’s Office and Jail will soon be housed in a brand-new facility of over 44,000 square feet.

The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and Jail have been in need of a new facility for well over a decade.

“The current facility has lived its lifetime,” says Robertson County Sheriff Gerald Yezak.

In June of 2019, the Sheriff’s Office broke ground on their new facility which is set to hold nearly double the number of inmates that they are able to hold currently.

“The current facility is 48 inmate jail constructed and finished in 1988, we’ve been there ever since and we are out of the room. This is a 92-inmate facility which is expandable to 144,” says Sheriff Yezak.

Along with the jail operations division, the facility will house the patrol division, investigation division, and the 911 emergency dispatch division.

“We’ll have expanded space for evidence storage, evidence processing. Our resident Texas Ranger will be in office with us. The special ranger for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, which helps us a lot with equipment and livestock thefts, he will be here. Our local Game Warden will be officially here,” says Sheriff Yezak.

Currently, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office has close to 40 employees, not all of which are housed in the current building due to the lack of space. Sheriff Yezak says the move to the new facility is highly anticipated.

“I currently have my investigators office in the courthouse because I have no room for in the current Sheriff’s Office to house my investigators,” he says. “Everyone is ready to relocate because we are so crowded, we have employees virtually imposing in on workspace on other employees, and here that will be eliminated.”

The new Sheriff’s Office and jail will allow for all county emergency services to once again be under one roof. The building is scheduled to open before the end of the year
