Rachel Widder joined KRHD News mid-July 2022 and currently works as a multimedia journalist for the Brazos Valley. She was born and raised in Galveston, Texas before moving to Canyon, Texas to pursue a degree in Digital Communication and Media from West Texas A&M University.
While doing so she also obtained a minor in Communication Studies. Rachel is a proud first-generation college student and thanks her parents for being so supportive of her dream to go to a university all four years. She was heavily involved on campus and graduated Magna Cum Laude May of 2022.
While attending, Rachel served as President for the National Broadcasting Society, was nominated for Woman of the Year, and was a national finalist for the 2021 Washington Media Plan Case Competition. She has also won several awards at National Undergraduate Electronic Media Competitions. During her senior year Rachel worked as the Morning Show Video News Editor for a local news station in Amarillo, Texas.
Although this is her first on-camera career, Rachel has been enjoying sharing the stories of the people, places, and animals that make the Brazos Valley what it is. She has a passion for reporting and has wanted to be a reporter from a very early age. Rachel was involved with her high school's newscasts, student-run newspaper, and yearbook committee. She was also on the Freshman Volleyball Team and Varsity Swim Team.
In her free time, you can find her thrift shopping, doing outdoor activities, playing boardgames, or spoiling her fur baby, Mylo. Rachel is looking forward to highlighting the area and what makes it such a unique spot. She hopes to only further get to know the area while also spreading the word of important, inspiring, and impactful news.
