Police looking for person of interest in July murder

COPPERAS COVE, TX — Police are looking for a person of interest in a murder that happened in July.

During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered video surveillance captured near the crime scene.

A person of interest was observed on video shortly before the shooting.

On July 23 around 11:13 p.m., Copperas Cove Police Officers responded to the intersection of S. 7th Street and W. Avenue E in reference to shots being fired.

Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim in the roadway, who did not display any signs of life. The Copperas Cove Fire Department EMS arrived on scene and confirmed the victim was deceased.

The victim was identified as Devonn Dozell Mayhew, who was a 21-year-old resident of Copperas Cove.

"We encourage the public to view and share the video on Facebook and any other social media platforms. Copperas Cove Crime Stoppers has increased the reward to up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment of the suspect," the Copperas Cove Police Department said.
