Highway dedication signs in honor of Trooper Nipper begin to pop up in Bell County

BELL COUNTY — Highway dedication signs in honor of Trooper Thomas Nipper have begun to go up on I-35.

Trooper Nipper died on Nov. 4, 2017, after a pickup truck hit his patrol car while he made a traffic stop along I-35 and his family has been working to make sure he is not forgotten.

The Nipper family was working to raise money through a "Thank a First Responder" fundraiser to help make these signs a reality near the site of the accident.

The signs will be located on southbound I-35 near Midway in Temple and northbound I-35 near east central in Belton.

A Highway Dedication Ceremony will be held at 10 am on March 17, 2021, at the Bell County Expo Center.

Trooper Nipper served in law enforcement for 43 years, 35 of which were with the the Texas Highway Patrol.
