First presumptive positive case of COVID-19, community spread reported in Ellis County

ELLIS COUNTY, TX — Ellis County has reported its first presumptive positive case of COVID-19.

Ellis County officials said they were notified of the first presumptive positive case at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday night. A Maypearl woman in her 70's recently went into the hospital to test for a stroke and began to meet the critera of COVID-19, where she was then administered a test.

The patient, along with her family, will be isolated in their home and monitored by DSHS.

The presumptive positive case has no former travel history neither domestic or international. Ellis County officials says this confirms that there is community spread of COVID-19 within Ellis County.

Officials say the immeidate risk of transmission in Ellis County remains low, however officials are requesting every county member do their part to protect their families, neighbors and most vulnerable within the community.

Ellis County has limited community gatherings to no more than 50 people. The order does not include restaurants, grocery stores, retail establishments and essential services.
